Diagnosis is the process of finding the root cause of a health issue, which is the vital part of any system of medicine. In Ayurveda, diagnosis depends on the body type (or Prakriti) of each individual, making the treatment different for every individual. These body types differs as per the balance between three doshas (or Tridoshas) – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – in each individual’s body.
As per tridoshas, Ayurveda classifies human body into
- Vata type
- Pitta type
- Kapha type
- Vata-Pitta type
- Vata-Kapha type
- Pitta-Kapha type
- Vata-Pitta-Kapha type
Physical appearance and Psychology of people are also classified as per their body types
Physical appearance
Vata type people are more likely to have a lean and tall body, while Pitta types have more chances of having a medium body, and Kapha type people to have a Heavy body.
Phsychological classification
Vata type people will mostly have a restless and anxious mind, Pitta type people a clever mind, and Kapha type people will have a calm and slow mind.
The three states in tridosha system
- You are ‘Balanced’, when all the three doshas in the body is in its natural proportion.
- You have an ‘Increase’ in any dosha, when a particular dosha or combination of some doshas is in greater-than-normal proportion in the body.
- You have a ‘Decrease’ in any dosha, when a particular dosha or combination of some doshas is in lower-than-normal proportion in the body.
In general, if the proportion of tridoshas in your body is same as that of its value at the time of your birth, you are considered to be healthy. If there is any change in your body’s tridosha-proportion from the time of your birth, it is considered as an imbalance. Imbalance means difference from your natural body type. According to tridosha system, each body will be more prone to certain types of health issues. Let’s have a glimpse of health issues for the three basic body types in general.
