Doshas
Doshas are the biological energies that exist in the human body & mind and regulate one’s mental and physical processes to ensure a unique health constituent. The three types of Doshas, namely, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha results in differences or uniqueness in every individual.
VATA
Vata is considered as the ‘King of Doshas’ and is derived from Space and Air, which means ‘that which move things’. It controls the body’s life force and gives motion to the other two doshas, i.e., Pitta and Kapha. The qualities of Vata are dry, rough, light, cold, subtle, and mobile. The physical and mental characteristics of a person can be judged from the constitution of Vata dosha in an individual. For instance, when Vata is aggravated, an individual’s system gets irregular and affects his/her weak organs and tissues.
PITTA
Pitta is derived from the elements of Fire and Water, and therefore, it means something ‘which warms up’. It accounts for an individual’s ability for digestion and metabolism. The qualities of Pitta are oily, sharp, hot, light, moving, liquid, and acidic. Pitta is more closely related to Fire and accounts to the liquid nature of substances. If Pitta is balanced, an individual has more control over his/her aggression.
KAPHA
Kapha is derived from the elements of Earth and Water and means something ‘which is held together’. This is the Dosha that provides an individual with the energy required for building and holding his/her physical form together and for the smooth functioning of various body parts. Kapha is considered as the essential dosha in holding one’s body together, and its qualities are moist, cold, heavy, dull, soft, sticky, and static.
